1. President's Remarks:
Does Anyone Remember the 10th Amendment?
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the
Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the
States respectively, or to the people."
I had a debate with a friend of mine the other night.
While well-meaning, my friend expressed his support for the idea of
universal healthcare for all Americans. He asked me repeatedly, in the
course of our debate, if I did not think it was the "right" of all
Americans to have free healthcare because we were, of course, talking
about people's health. What could be more important to people than their health?
Every time I hear people verbalize opinions like this, I
wonder if they have ever read the Constitution of the United States or
the Bill of Rights. If so, did they absorb the actual meaning, or did
they just regurgitate it for a high school test and move on? Did they
ever really ponder what the 10th Amendment means?
I don't really think that many Americans understand the idea of government by the consent of the governed.
You don't just make something a "right", and give the government the
power to tax you in order to pay for that "right", by fiat or wishful
thinking. The Constitution and Bill of Rights delineate the powers that
WE permit the Federal government to have, and they delineate the
powers we DON'T let the Federal government have. Everything else is left
to the states (which are limited by their own constitutions and laws)
OR TO THE PEOPLE. In other words, the default provision is always to
let people in this country order their own lives and make their own
decisions as it seems best to them.
So, the Federal government has to prove that it has the
power to make universal healthcare a "right", which we must
finance. And frankly, I don't see where that authority is parked. In
the commerce clause? Spare me- we have twisted that provision so many
times beyond it's original meaning that it has become hard to
recognize. What does shoving universal healthcare down the voter's
throats have to do with regulating commerce between states? Nothing.
So where is the authority to accomplish this grand deed?
What "right" was my friend referring to? Like so many things proposed
by this administration, the authority they claim is fully make believe
and illusory-right up until the moment your tax bill is due.
So my suggestion is this: let's pull the 10th Amendment
out of the closet, dust it off, shine it up, and act like it means
something again. Decisions concerning our health are best left to We
the People. We need to defend that right and let the Federal government
know that they govern with our consent, but only for so long as they
abide by the Constitution.
And if the Federal government wants to know how we feel about this, I would suggest that a suitable text, with only the slightest alteration necessary, presently exists in the
Declaration of Independence. We complained in that document that King
George III "has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither
swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance."
Substitute "Healthcare laws" for New Offices, and "IRS Agents" for
Officers, and I think that says it all.

2. Legislative Alert: Federal Issues to Keep up on!
As I begin my report for this month, the legislation in
the forefront is Obamacare. President Obama sent out the message that all
Democrat members of Congress must clear their schedules and attend a closed
door meeting with him about healthcare reform. Is this transparent?
It looks like a private party to me. Ironically, just in time, Dick
Durbin admits publicly that under Obamacare, healthcare premiums will go
up. The White House must be furious with him. According to Stuart
Varney, Fox News commentator, 7% of Americans will benefit and 93% will not be
eligible, just taxed. We will be billed in advance; ten years of taxes,
but it will take five years to take effect. Dick Morris tells us,
Remember: If Obamacare becomes law; our health system will never
recover. And if it does not, Obama and Pelosi will never pass another
important piece of legislation without genuine bipartisan support. Obama
just will not give up! But even his cousin Dr. Milton R. Wolf is opposed
to Obamacare.
Kelly Shakelford, President of the Liberty Institute,
appeared on Fox News to discuss current activities on Texas State Board of
Education. There are ten Republicans and five Democrats on the SBOE, and
the progressives want to alter history. Through the social studies
curriculum they want to omit Christmas and other events that depict
our foundation as a Christian nation. Hearings are going on right
now and the decisions on guidelines for book publishers will be made in
May. This is incredibly important because this is only done every
ten years. Since Texas purchases so many books, it is the
springboard to other states who will purchase the same books. So the
sales will go nationwide. Many conservatives feel the progressives want
to brainwash future Americans and plan to do it through indoctrination in the
schools.
Becky Dunlop of the Heritage Foundation reported that there
is a potential land grab taking place. Since Cap and Trade seems in the
tank, the Obama administration wants to make nice with the environmentalists
that helped him get elected. They want to set aside thirteen million
acres of land in the West as monument land. They are even going to delve
into eminent domain if they have to. This is another piece of legislation
that they may try to sneak in.
The Eric Massa scandal has deeper implications than just he
got out of hand and is now resigning from Congress. Nancy Pelosi stated
when the Obama administration came into office that they were going to drain
the swamps. However, Nancy Pelosi's staff alerted her over a year ago
about Massa. Michele Malkin tells us to keep watching this one because it
may get a whole lot bigger.
Lindsay Graham is ready to make a deal with the White House
over a national ID card. He thinks it will solve the illegal immigration
problem. He now is stating that it may be time to close GITMO because our
enemies in Europe are using it as a propaganda tool.
Finally, we will have a run-off election April 13th.
Early voting will begin two weeks before. Do not forget to vote!
