1. President's Remarks: So Who do They Represent?
According to the Rasmussen Report, which can be found at www.rasmussenreport.com, the results of a recent poll are as follows:
Sixty-one percent (61%) of Americans say Congress should drop health care reform and focus on more immediate ways to improve economy and create jobs. Fifty-three(53%) of Democrats say Congress should build on the health care plan that hasworking this way through Congress. Republicans
(84%) overwhelmingly disagree and think Congress should [scrap] that
plan and start all over, a view shared by two-thirds (66%) of voters
not affiliated with either major party.
Despite the numbers (and Rasmussen is by no means the only poll showng the lack of support for the health care bill)
the President and Congressional Democrats persist in attempting to
shove this bill down the throats of Americans, who very clearly don't
want it.
The question one would ask, given the facts at hand, is; who do they represent? Do they represent Americans? Their constituents? Or just Democrats, whoare not overwhelming in support of this bill either? What is it that propels them to do something so clearly unpopular with their fellow countrymen?
I would submit that what propels them is pride, and blindness. This
administration has demonstrated a certain arrogance in asserting, time
and again, that they can make better decisions for Americans that we
can make for ourselves. That leadership is not demonstrated by self-restraint (particularly in spending money), but isdemonstrated only by paternalism. In their increasing desperation to accomplish something, they don't seem to care whether it is something we want.
Additionally, this administration (and Democrats in general) often seems to devolve into snide commentary when confronted bythings they don't want to see. Whether
it is insulting the tendency of Americans to be religious, carry
weapons, or drive trucks, this knee-jerk reaction to things that
threaten them (like the election of Scott Brown) is a hallmark of this administrationand the reigning party.
What this highlights is the fact that they are wilfully blind. A wise man or woman willaccept lessons even when they are painful. Especially when they are painful, because those lessons are usually the most important ones. But that is, in the end,a homespun piece of American wisdom. Apparently they don't teach that in Harvard.
Sincerely,
Lisa Callaghan, President Arlington Republican Club

2. Legislative Alert: February 2010
On January
25, 2010, on Fox & Friends broadcast by FOX News, Michael Goodwin,
a political pollster and registered Democrat was interviewed.
He voted for Obama but considers himself an independent and votes for
the individual. He was discussing "buyers' remorse".
He stated that Obama and the White House are ignoring the results of
the races in Massachusetts, Virginia and New Jersey. He confirmed
that the top issues for America are 1. Overspending, 2. Jobs, and 3.
National Security.
On February
6, 2010, Senator Jane Nelson addressing the Texas Republican Assembly
during their annual convention held in Fort Worth said the 2010 Elections
will be the most important election ever! She said
we lost Congress because Republicans were not doing what the people
wanted. She stated that there are two reasons this election is
so important, #1. The Budget, because the
stimulus money will be spent and socialized medicine will force Texas
to increase spending on Medicaid (an increase from 3.2 to 5 million),
and #2 . Redistricting, because if the Republicans
do it, the lines will be fair; if the Dems do it, the lines will be
unfair.
During my past
35 years as a Republican activist, I have observed many politicians
claim to be Conservative Republicans, but when they vote after they
are elected, they vote as liberals. Our question must be "Which
candidate in each race will vote as if they read and believe in the
Republican Platform?" We must do everything we can to ensure
the Texas Legislature is controlled by bona fide Republicans.
We have never
faced more important elections than 2010 and 2012. However, we
have never had a greater opportunity to replant Reagan type principles
and take back the House, the Senate and the Presidency. Let us
unite to return to the basics, Less Government, Fewer Taxes, Personal
Responsibility, Family Values, Individual Freedom and Provide for the
National Defense. Americans are rightly concerned about the out
of control Government Spending, Unemployment and National Security.
We cannot afford to assume someone else will do it. The buck stops
with each and every one of us.
Laraine Bethke, 4th Vice President Legislative Alert
