1. President's
ReMARKs: You Can't Spend Yourself Rich
Obama's
spending is out of control and he's making George Bush's 2008
deficit of $459 billion look tame. Suddenly W is looking
better all the time. Obama's 2009 deficit will only be
1.7 TRILLION dollars. The fact we are so upset about
this obscene wasteful spending is one reason the tea parties on
April 15 were so well attended and popular.
I worry
that the last November election was a "tipping point" between worker
bees like us Republicans who are pulling the cart and welfare cheats
and tax users who are in the cart-holding it back.
Once America gets to the point where there are more people in the
cart using taxes our society is in danger. "A democracy
cannot exist as a permanent form of government.
It can only exist until voters discover that they can vote
themselves largess from the public treasury. From that moment
on the majority always votes for the candidates promising them the
most benefits from the public treasury." (a famous quote
by Professor Alexander Tyler.) I fear the voters elected
someone in November who will give them everything by borrowing,
taxing and spending!
A startling fact is that 43.4
percent of Americans now pay zero or negative federal income
taxes! The number of single and jointly-filing "taxpayers" who pay
no taxes or receive government handouts has reached almost 66
million, out of a total of 151 million. These people think federal
spending is good. They benefit from the spending! Notice
there were no welfare cheats at the Tea Parties!
We are
seeing the true democratic party at work, tax and spend, borrow and
spend, more socialism, more waste. Mark R. Hanson, 52, is President of the
Arlington Republican Club and is certain the dollar will be
worthless if all this spending keeps up!

2. Legislative
Alert: Grassroots Effort Makes Arlington Tea Party a
Success
On April 15, 2009 the people of Arlington
gathered at River Legacy Park to show their frustration with our
federal government that they believe taxes and spends too
much. Estimates are that over 2000 people showed up at River
Legacy Park with their signs and their enthusiastic support for The
Tea Party movement.
The Arlington Tea Party was fortunate to
have great speakers and participants. Matt Foster of the UTA
Young Republicans was the spokesperson for the event and had the
distinct honor to introduce Congressman Joe Barton and Governor Rick
Perry.
Arlington resident Edie Moore put the Tea Party
together. Edie became interested in setting up the Tea Party
when she, like many Americans, watched in horror as the Obama
Administration began implementing policies that she believed would
bankrupt the country. She had never been involved in politics
and wondered, "What can I do?"
Edie set up a
website for the Arlington Tea Party and the rest is history.
She enlisted the help of Scott Hansen who brought the PA system, Dr.
Gary Frazier who delivered an eloquent speech and Matt Foster who
arranged the Barton and Perry speeches.
The
event started off with a moving rendition of The Star Spangled
Banner by Scott's daughter Maren. Chelsea Recine led the
Pledge of Allegiance. Our own Arlington Republican Club member
Dale Attebery was Master of Ceremonies and did a fantastic
job.
Edie spoke about her calling to start this
movement and then introduced Dr. Gary Frazier of Discovery
Missions. He gave a rousing, spirit-filled speech along
with a stirring innovation. He was a wonderful speaker
and he also provided the podium.
We heard from Warren Norred
who was very informative regarding the mass transit proposition that
will be voted on soon. Many people in Arlington, including
myself were unaware of what our Tarrant County politicians had in
store for us regarding mass transit.
We then heard from
Congressman Joe Barton who spoke of what is going on in
Congress. It was an honor to see Congressman Barton and hear
about what he plans to do to combat the Pelosi-Reid cabal.
Governor Perry then arrived and entered with thunderous
applause. He thanked Matt for his service then went on to give
an outstanding speech about government's intrusion on the rights of
the states. The basic theme of the speech was that Texas
does not need Washington to tell them how to run Texas. His
message resonated with the crowd and the cheers were
deafening.
Bottom line the grassroots ruled the day.
Everyone that attended was just as important to the movement as the
people who spoke. The cars honking and the support from the
people who drove by invigorated those that chose to demonstrate
along Green Oaks. The children that were there seemed to
enjoy the demonstration. They looked delightful when they
waved their flags and signs. The service of the Arlington Police
Department was outstanding. They were instrumental in
directing traffic and ensuring security for all
participants.
You can view videos of Congressman Barton's and
Governor Perry's speeches at arlingtonteaparty.blogspot.com. There are
also some great photos as well.
Anne Coker is 4th Vice President of The
Arlington Republican Club and owns a company that provides
pre-employment assessments.
